As Rotarians, we all horrified by the destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. Naturally, we want to find ways to help those impacted.

There are many Rotary initiatives that you and your club can support. More will develop over the coming days. We will work to keep this story updated with all Rotary relevant information on where you can donate and others way to help.

Rotary District 7020 Hurricane Recovery Fund

The Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund #574
This is a Donor Advised fund that was established by District 7680 for Carolina hurricane relief last year. It will be used this year for funding relief efforts in response to Dorian. You may specify a certain area you would like your funding to support. This fund will be managed and governed by a committee of one representative from each of the affected districts. That committee will oversee the grant requests for undesignated funds, and oversee the distribution, deciding who gets what, reporting, etc. Click here for detailed information on how to donate. Donate online here: https://www.your-fundaccount.com/rotary/howtocontribute.asp Be sure to list the name and number of the fund.

Rotary District 6660 Hurricane Relief Fund
This District in SE Florida and Grand Bahama Island has a 501(c)(3) fund for relief efforts. They are also collecting goods which will be shipped to the Rotary Clubs on Grand Bahama Island. Learn more and donate here: https://rotary6990.org/

Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Fund
The Rotary Foundation has established a Disaster Response Fund to fund grants for districts and clubs looking to support relief and recovery efforts in areas that have been affected by natural disasters within the past six months. Grant funds can be used to provide basic items such as water, food, medicine, and clothing.

This is a great choice if you would like your funding to be stewarded by The Rotary Foundation. Your funding will also be amplified by the contributions of the clubs and districts receiving Disaster Response Grants. Note, Disaster Response Grants can only be awarded to the extent the fund has resources.

ShelterBox
ShelterBox is currently sending an assessment team to the Bahamas to work with Rotary International and other local partners. They will be assessing the damage from the Category 5 storm to determine if there are any gaps in the need for emergency shelter that they can fill.

Learn more about Hurricane Dorian and ShelterBox’s decision to deploy process, and how you can help families affected by disaster here: https://www.shelterboxusa.org/hurricane-dorian/

Contributions to ShelterBox USA can be made here: www.shelterboxusa.org/donate. Note, donations may not be restricted to support specific deployments.

Rotary District 6440 will monitor Rotary related activity. And as always, Rotary’s primary way of serving will be as a part of the long term recovery efforts. Our District’s Disaster Response team will explore developing or supporting hands on service opportunities and no doubt, some of our clubs will join with District 7020 to sponsor Global Grants to provide sustainable impacts in alignment with Rotary’s Six Area of Focus. We will keep everyone updated as developments warrant.
