Welcome to a new club in District 6440: The Rotary Club of McHenry-Sunrise.

In the Fall of 2009, the Rotary Club of McHenry opened up discussions about sponsoring a morning Rotary Club. The club felt that giving potential Rotarians an option of a lunch meeting or a morning meeting would mean more Rotarians serving our community.

On Dec. 17, 2009, the Rotary Club of McHenry voted to sponsor a new morning Rotary club in McHenry. On Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, The Rotary Club of McHenry–Sunrise began initial organizational meetings at the MCC/Shah Center in McHenry. The new morning club, with an advisory team of seven Rotarians, laid out some ambitious goals.

The Sunrise Club's three-month goals, by the end of April 2010, were to:
• Have 20 Active Members
• Adopt Bylaws and Constitution
• Elect Officers
• Receive its official charter from Rotary International

In its first three months, the Provisional Rotary Club of McHenry–Sunrise was able to accomplish its three-month goals and was awarded its club charter from Rotary International on April 28, 2010. The enthusiasm shown by all the members of the new Sunrise club, support from District Governor Bill Ferreira, assistance from special representative Sue Dobbe, and encouragement from the Rotary Club of McHenry, made this a true team effort. The Sunrise Club is having a Charter Night Celebration on June 2, 2010, at the McHenry Country Club in McHenry IL.
