ImageOn February 20, Buffalo Grove Rotarian David Hafft hosted a group of 35 people from District 6440 that included ten inbound exchange students and five American students going outbound to a tour of the outstanding Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center in Skokie.  Danny Spungen, a Lincolnshire Rotarian, gave a very informative and moving description of the exhibits in the museum as the docent to half of the group.

As Marsha Ross, a youth exchange officer from the Gurnee Club, noted, “Danny was able to really relate to the students in a very meaningful way.”  The museum addresses not only the Holocaust era of history, but also makes links to other genocides that have occurred, or are still occurring, in the world.  The comments and questions of the foreign exchange students from all over the globe added an enriching perspective.  The tour ended with a survivor’s testimonial of amazing perseverance that really had an impact on the audience.  Martha Weiss, Inbound Coordinator for our district, said, "We are fortunate to have this gem of a museum in our district and each and every Rotarian should make an effort to take advantage of its applications to the work of promoting peace that we embrace."
